National Agricultural Research Organisation is established by the National
Agricultural Research Act 2005 as a body corporate with the mandate to provide
strategic direction for publicly funded agricultural research in Uganda.
National Crops Resources Research Institute (NaCRRI) is one of the public
agricultural research institutes under the National Agricultural Research
Organization (NARO) established under the Act of Parliament of the Republic of
Uganda. NaCRRI has an approval for a grant to run a four year project to
establish a Cassava Seed Systems for Uganda. Part of this grant will be used to
hire competent personnel for efficient and effective management of the project.

Job Summary: The Agronomist
will be responsible for multiplication of cassava pre-basic and basic seeds

Key Duties and

- Develop
training materials for production and multiplication of high quality
cassava seeds - Work
closely with the socio-economist, develop break-even point for commercial
cassava production - Coach, in
liaison with the participating NGOS, cassava seed entrepreneurs - Design
functional research appropriate for optimizing and enhancing quality seed
production, including rapid multiplication techniques - Participate
as a team with other staff in root crops research program - Responsible
for compilation, presentation and submission of reports of the activities
executed in agreed formats - Participate
in public engagements on cassava disease management and control - Participate
in work plan and budget development processes - Performing
any other duties as assigned by the designated supervisor
Qualifications, Skills
and Experience:

- The applicant should possess a relevant
Master’s degree in Crop science with bias to agronomy (crop management or
soil science) is required - Past experience with diverse stakeholders
especially farmers, local NGOs, private sector and funding agencies in
Uganda - Additional qualification and experience in seed
science and seed management is desirable - Highly Results oriented with an eye for detail
- High integrity, with proven interpersonal,
interdisciplinary, multi-stakeholder management skills - Strong strategic, quantitative, analytical and
computer skills - Self-drive, demonstrated willingness to spend
extra time to achieve results with minimum super vision - Possess excellent report writing, oral and
written communication skills
