1922 as a humble technical school, Makerere University is one of the oldest and
most prestigious Universities in Africa. In January of that year, the school,
which was later renamed Uganda Technical College, opened its doors to 14 day
students who began studying Carpentry, Building and Mechanics. The College soon
began offering various other courses in Medical Care, Agriculture , Veterinary
Sciences and Teacher Training. It expanded over the years to become a Center
for Higher Education in East Africa in 1935. In 1937, the College started
developing into an institution of higher education, offering post-school
certificate courses. In 1949, it became a University College affiliated to the
University College of London, offering courses leading to the general degrees
of its then mother institution.
Summary: The Human
Resources Officer will implement,
maintain and update programs, procedures and Strategies for the College in line
with Human Resources Policies.
- Implement
annual work plans for the College in line with Human Resource targets. - Provide
technical; support and implement decisions of the College committees in
line with Human Resources Policy. - Implement
College development and change management programs in line with Human
Resources Policy. - Implement
and identify gaps in the Human Resources Manual and recommend inputs for
updating it in line with Human Resources Policy. - Capture,
process, maintain and update College records on HURIS in line with Human
Resources Policy. - Compile
and keep records of payroll, benefits and allowances of College staff in
line with Human Resources Policy. - Coordinate
with the relevant University divisions/departments in the implementation
of Human Resources Policies. - Perform
any other duties as assigned by the Director Human Resources
Skills and Experience:
- The
applicant should possess an honours Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics or
Social Sciences or Human Resource Management or Organizational Psychology
or its equivalent from a recognized Institution/University. - At
least a year’s experience in Human Resource related work. - Computer
literacy skills; - Good
research and data analysis skills - Proven
Counseling skills - Good
Interpersonal and Communication Skills - High sense of self drive/motivation
- Excellent
writing and analytical skills - Knowledge
of the Labour Laws
