Information and Communications Technology (UICT), located at Plot 9-21 Port Bell
Road, Nakawa, Kampala, Uganda, was established in 1965 as the East African
Posts and Telecommunications Training Centre. Following the enactment of the
Uganda Communications Act, 1997, the training centre was transferred to the
Uganda Communications Commission. The Commission changed the name of the centre
to Uganda Communications Institute, and later to the present name of Uganda
Institute of Information and Communications Technology.
will be responsible for overall physical security of the institute and its
properties.
Responsibilities:
- Overall supervisor of the security guards
duties include planning, scheduling, organizing and directing work. - Training personnel and recommending applicants
for employment or for discipline, termination or retention. - Instructs and enforces safety regulations to
the Institute community. - Establishes security patrol priorities.
- Conduct security surveys and audits to identify
and report security risks and potential threats and advise management on
the best ways to protect staff and equipment of the Institute. - Schedule, deploy and supervise and security
Guards. - Circulate security related information as
deemed necessary - Coordination of any security investigations
unless incase of conflict of interest - Take phone calls, take necessary action
including during non-business hours as far as security matters are
concerned. - Warn persons including staff and students of
rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from
premises with the help of security guards or police. - Ensure security equipment is
in working condition and in use as required - Prepares periodic reports to the Institute
officials regarding the security of the Institute and surroundings. - Takes predetermined action and renders first
aid in emergencies such as accident, fire and illness. - Assists in development of security policy and
procedures. - Communicates with service users about security
needs and problems. - Maintains and recommends changes or improvements
in the software record keeping system for security guard activities. - Monitor adherence to security protocols and policies of the
Institute. - Encourage and ensure all students carry identification cards
- Ensures visitors identifications is properly done and they are
guided to right destinations - Report any indiscipline infraction, unauthorized visitor and acts of
vandalism to the Principal. - Conduct emergency drills
Experience:
- The applicant should posses an Honours Degree
from a recognized University preferably in Social Sciences, Law or
Security Management. - At least three years of relevant security
experience preferably from the Police or Prisons Service. - Broad understanding of global security issues
- Computer literate, working knowledge of IT
security equipment - Mature, physically fit and available on a
24-hour basis - Able to work with minimal oversight
- Legal knowledge would be of added advantage
- Discharge letter from the previous employers
should be accompanied by copies of academic testimonials, curriculum vitae, LC1
letter of the current residential address and discharge letter from the
