Commission of Uganda
& Public Education Officer
Commission of Uganda serves the following functions;
- To appoint,
promote and exercise disciplinary control over persons holding public
office in Parliament; - To review the
terms and conditions of service, standing orders, training and
qualifications of persons holding office in Parliament; - To provide a
Parliamentary reporting service; - To provide such
other staff and facilities as are required to ensure efficient functioning
of the Parliament; - To cause to be
prepared in each financial year, estimates of revenue and expenditure for
the next financial year; and - To make
recommendations to Parliament, or with the approval of Parliament,
determine the allowances payable and privileges available to the Speaker
and Members of Parliament.
Public Education Officer will gather news and information on Parliament for
dissemination and broadcast
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the research and documentation
functions in the department - Liaise with public and private organizations
for acquisition of news and
information vital to parliamentary committees - Coordinate media accreditation and other
activities of the UPPA at Parliament and produce scripts for the media
houses as required - Write articles for publication in newspaper
columns an generate and respond to FAQs on the website and any other
information requests - Develop radio and television talk show
schedules - Prepare and provide the content / information
for posting on the Parliament website, anti update information on the
electronic notice board - Generate content for brochures and guidebooks
as well as manage the production of the Parliamentary newsletter and other
publications - Prepare information kits for use during public
education programmes - Perform any other duties as may be assigned
from time.
Experience:
- The applicant should possess an Honours
Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism and Communication, or
an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree with Communication and Public Relations
studied as subjects from a recognized University/Institution - Good writing skills
- Good oral communication and public speaking
skills - Ability to work well with the media
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work for long hours with minimum
supervision
