About
UTB:
The Uganda Tourism Board
(UTB) is a statutory organization established by the Tourism Act, 2008. The
objectives of UTB are to promote and contribute to the development of the
tourism sector both within and outside Uganda; to coordinate with the Ministry
of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and the private sector in the
implementation of the national tourism policy and to such activities as are
incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objectives.
Job
Summary:
The Executive
Director will formulate and implement strategic goals and objectives of the
organization, provide technical support to the board to fulfill its governance
function and provide leadership to achieve the organization’s vision and
mission.
Key
Duties and Responsibilities
:
  • Responsible
    for providing strategic leadership, harnessing of opportunities, further
    growth and development of the organization and in charge of the overall
    operations
  • Provides
    technical and logistical support to the Board to enable it carry-out its
    functions
  • Provides
    leadership on policy matters, strategy development, resource mobilization,
    strategic partnership development, and an advocate on all key issues
    pertaining to the development of the tourism sector and the advancement of
    the objectives of UTB.
  • Responsible
    for overseeing the effective implementation of organization policies,
    procedures and systems.
  • Constantly
    reviews the organizations systems steering them to uphold organizational
    effectiveness and efficiency
  • Responsible
    for directing and motivating a strong and highly technical team towards
    the attainment of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Responsible
    for internal audit, public relations, crisis management and legal affairs
Key
Performance Indicators:
  • Providing
    leadership by charting corporate direction, identifying and removing
    bottlenecks in fine with the Tourism Act, Mandate, Vision and Mission and
    create value for all stakeholders
  • Supervising
    the performance on the respective functions of departments and units to
    achieve corporate operating plans
  • Scanning,
    networking, and linking businesses to achieve objectives as set out in
    corporate plan
  • Supervising
    corporate resources in accordance with corporate plans, rules and
    regulations.
  • Monitoring
    the attainment of targets, sustainable growth, quality improvements and
    efficiency as projected in the approved business plan
  • Reviewing
    and recommending corporate policy changes to the Board of Directors from
    time to time in order to kep them aligned with environmental changes.
Qualifications, Skills
and Experience:
  • The
    candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree in any field relevant to
    tourism promotion. A relevant post graduate qualification is an added
    advantage
  • At
    least three years of experience as a Chief Executive Officer and/ or 6
    years in an executive role managing diverse teams and portfolios in a
    reputable organization.
  • Excellent
    track record of performance at a high level management position
  • Good
    track record in turning around organization image and performance into a
    competitive and vibrant institution able to command the respect of
    stakeholders through innovation, change management and systems building.
  • Experience
    in handling board governance
  • Possess
    strong negotiation skills, excellent communication and presentation skills
    and experience in resource mobilization, lobbying and advocacy at
    national, regional and international level
  • Experience
    in Tourism Management, Planning, Marketing and Promotion and related field
    will be an added advantage.
  • Good
    understanding of Public Sector will be an added advantage
  • Proficiency
    in IT skills
