Consultants Limited is retained to assist the Board of Directors of Housing
Finance Bank Limited to identify a competent person to fill the post of
Managing Director as the incumbent’s contract of service will expire 31st
December 2013. The Bank was registered in 1967 as a credit institution to
provide mortgage financing, and licensed as a commercial bank in 2007.
Currently, it has a network of 16 branches and is now positioning itself to be
the most innovative bank with housing, agriculture and retail banking as its
key focus areas, thereby fostering growth and achieving higher returns for its
shareholders and stakeholders. We are
therefore looking for a competent and a highly innovative banker of integrity;
and with a passion for mortgage service industry to provide overall leadership
in developing and implementing strategies that will lead the Bank to focus on
its mandate and achieve its objectives. A
competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful
candidate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide
business leadership in developing and implementing the Bank’s strategic
plans to achieve sustainable growth and profitability - Direct
the Bank’s management of financial and operational systems, procedures and
controls - Offer
strategic direction on new investments, business opportunities and
initiatives over the long term - Advise
the Board on business plans and operational issues and communicate and
lead implementation of the Board’s decisions - Maintain
and develop organizational culture, values and reputation with all staff,
customers, suppliers, partners and regulatory bodies - Augment
relationships with local and global business partners - Promote
sound corporate governance and ethical standards at all levels within the
organization - Ensure
accountability at all levels of the Bank and processes mid-course
corrections in goals and strategies as necessary - Communicate
effectively with internal and external stakeholders to build support for
the vision, mission, goals and direction of the organization - Establish
an effective structure, ensuring that there is management focus on key
functions necessary for the bank to deliver on its vision. - Articulate
priorities and ensure management focuses on accountability of identified
priorities - Understand
the Bank’s requirement for governance and support the Board in its
governance duties by providing necessary information and access to key
stakeholders. - Update
the Board regularly on plans, performance issues, risks and opportunities
and ensure that the Board receives information destined for outside
stakeholders before it is communicated to them - Speedily
execute direction duly issued by the Board - Understand
the concept of value creation and make decisions on where to allocate
resources based on maximizing value to the Bank and ensure that the Bank’s
financial records are accurate and up to date - Understand
and appreciate risk management and promote the culture throughout the Bank
- Promptly
identify and present reports to the board and regulators for necessary
actions.
Skills and Experience:
- The
applicant should possess a bachelor’s degree in commerce, accounting,
finance, economics, business management or any other related discipline. - Professional
qualification in investment management and/or masters degree in finance,
business administration or a related subject; or membership or affiliation
to a banking or investment related association will be an added advantage. - Senior
management experience in managing investment and/or accounting systems and
/or implementing investment systems and processes such as compliance,
investment accounting and financial reporting. - At
least ten years working experience at management level, 5 of which should
be at CEO or senior management level in a large financial service related
organization of international repute. - Successful
experience managing a large and complex business organization with large
numbers of people of diverse skills - Strong
knowledge and hands-on experience of financial products including mutual
banks, hedge banks, derivatives, swaps and other structured products - Familiarity
with the current global and local regulatory environment for investment
banks as well as a demonstrated ability to keep on top of developments in
the pensions sector globally - Well-honed
interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills - Demonstrable
leadership skills with strong intellect and vision as well as a proven
track record of honesty and integrity - Good
judgment and decision making skills - Planning
