Community Services Assistant
Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General
Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action
to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose
is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure
that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in
another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or
to resettle in a third country. It also has a mandate to help stateless people.
Protection team in the Community Services Unit. The job holder will act as a
critical interface between UNHCR, communities of concern, providing an AGD
sensitive analysis of community risks and capacities that form the essential
foundations of all UNHCR work in a given country context. Under the overall
direction of the Protection Unit, and in coordination with other UNHC staff,
government, NGO partners and other key stakeholders, Community services staff
work directly with communities to leverage their capacities for community based
protection.
& Responsibilities:
- Assist functional units,
the Multi-Funtional Team (MFT) and senior management to integrate
participatory and community-based approaches in the overall protection
delivery strategy. - Assist in
initiatives with host communities
to involve national civil ociety groups in the protection of persons of
concern. - Offer support in the
implementation and also to operational patners as well as with displaced
and local communities to develop community-owned activities to address,
where applicable, the social, educational, psycho-social, cultural,
health, organisational and livelihood concerns as well as child
protections and response to SGBV. - Assist in analyzing
protection risk and capacities of communities of concern. - Support participatory
assessments by multifunctional teams and
ongoing consultation with persons of concern - Collect data for
monitoring of programmes and budgets for the AGD perspective - Accompany and interpret
for senior management in their contacts with local interlocutors - Draft and type routine
correspondence, documents and reports using word processing equipment and
maintain up-to-date filing systems - Support efforts to build
the office capacity for community-based protection - Perform other duties as
instructed.
Skills & Experience:
- The prospective employee
should have completed secondary education and possess post-secondary
training in social sciences or social work. - The candidate should
possess at least four years previous job experience in a related or
similar job role
Competencies:
- Computer literacy skills
- Fluency in both written
and oral English. - Knowledge of another UN
or local language
