Steering Committee
is carried out in 8 countries, including Uganda. The vision of the WASH
Alliance is that all people are able to assert and realize their right to
sustainable access to safe drinking water in sufficient quantities, adequate
sanitation and hygienic living conditions in order to improve their health,
nutritional status and economic living standard. The Uganda WASH Alliance
program strives to contribute to the goals of the Uganda government, in terms
of increased WASH coverage, improved use of WASH services, higher levels of
sustainability and functionality of the systems installed, and good WASH
governance. We strive to contribute to improved performance at system level, in
the WASH sector as a whole, through the introduction of innovative tools and
methodologies. The Ugandan Program
consists of: The Northern Program, implemented by AMREF Uganda and Caritas
Gulu. Recently AFRST, Link To Progress and Water for People Uganda joined this
program; The Western (Rwenzori Program, implemented by the Rwenzori WASH
Alliance, consisting of HEWASA and JESE as implementing partners and SNV and
PROTOS as technical support partners; and a National support program,
implemented by UWASNET, NETWAS, and URWA, to support the implementing partners
in advocacy, learning, knowledge management and provide the link between
implementation and policy formulation.
The Country Coordinator will coordinate the three programs and foster the
inclusion of the Rights Based Approach, Business innovation and Sustainability in
the entire Uganda program. He or she will also facilitate of process of
strategy development to ensure program’s relevance and feasibility after 2015,
when the major donor the Netherlands Government) will withdraw. The future
country coordinator will work with a wide range of development actors: NG0s.
local and national government, international funding agencies, Universities,
Banks, Knowledge Institutions etc.
- Facilitate
the vision and mission development of the Uganda Wash Alliance (post 2015)
and create program unity among its Ugandan members - Facilitate
the capacity development & learning activities organized by the UWA - Aggregate
and harmonize individual WASH work plans, budgets, and reports at country
level - Communicate
with the Dutch WASH alliance members and the Southern Alliances. - Represent
the UWA at international, national and regional level, as the secretary of
the SC and coordinator of the entire country program. - Actively
liaise with external (private sector, government, donors, resource
centers, etc for the promotion, funding of the UWA. - Look
for opportunities for members of the Alliance for learning,
funding, cooperation. - Lead / facilitate the process of post 2015
strategy and positioning of the UWA - Communicate / publish about the work of
the UWA, its results and approaches.
- The
applicant should hold a bachelor degree in Water Resources Management,
Public Health, Development Studies, Social or Political Science. - At
least five years work experience; - Knowledge
of the WASH sector is not a must, but highly preferred. - Knowledge
of and experience in national and international development work, program
management, advocacy and capacity building programming and M&E are
essential.
- Open,
dynamic, flexible and pro-active coordinator with vision, leadership
skills and an antenna for relation management, who can work with minimum
guidance. - Excellent
facilitation and communication skills with ability to interact across all
levels. - Excellent
organization skills to manage a multi-partner organization structure, with
international counterparts.
