Uganda Virus Research Unit on AIDS
Uganda
following a request in 1988 from the Uganda Government to the British
Government for collaboration on the research of HIV (Human immunodeficiency
Virus) infection and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency. The Unit is a center of
excellence in HIV/AIDS related research. It conducts large-scale
epidemiological and intervention studies, clinical trials, virological and
immunological research and behavioural studies, clinical trials and has
generated a wealth of research results that have been used to inform policy and
practice, and that have led to a large number of scientific publications in
peer reviewed journals over time.
will offer support to the Senior Accountant by supervising the department and
completing all monthly financial reports for head office and answering adhoc
queries. Directly supporting with audits of the Unit by interacting and
preparing information, and audit trail data for both internal and external
Auditors. Ensuring that accounts procedures and internal controls are
implemented according to the Unit SOP’s with oversight of the work produced by
the Accounts Officers.
- The job holder will be preparing monthly,
quarterly and annual reports as required while ensuring that any
discrepancies or causes for concern are highlighted. - Ensuring that all income that is due to
MRC/UVRI is received, reliably and accurately recorded. - Carrying out monthly balance sheet item
reconciliations in order to highlight any concerns or actions due. - Ensuring that the financial activities of
the accounts team are compliant with the laws of Uganda, donor
requirements and best practice In financial management. - Ensuring that fixed asset records are kept
up to date and reconciled to RCL records including disposal forms and
investigating and resolving anomalies, physically identifying all fixed
assets once per year at all stations - Ensure physical assets are all correctly
identified and clearly labelled. - Supervision of the petty cash management
& administration for the main Entebbe imprest and posting field
station imprests. - Ensuring that payments due are made in a
timely and accurate manner, maintaining good on-going relationships with
vendors, volunteers, partners and other stakeholders - Leading the Accounts team, in a manner
that empowers them to deliver excellent customer service and high
standards - As requested, assisting Managers in the
development of budgets for project/department managers. - Reviewing and controlling internal
recharging of fleet usage charges to ensure FEC of project usage - Implementing corrective actions as
requested by the Senior Accountant.
Experience:
- He / She should possess a Bachelor’s
Degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Administration. - Part qualified professional Accountant qualification
(ACCA, CIMA, CPA). - A minimum of at least three years
experience in a busy accounts office with direct supervision of personnel. - Good working knowledge of MS Dynamics-Navision
required. - Excellent spread sheeting skills and other
Microsoft Office programmes desirable - Working knowledge of Oracle ERP system and
databases desirable. - Experience in a Research /
Medical/Humanitarian organisation is desirable. - Be a self-starter who takes initiative and
maintains a high standard of professional conduct. - Self-motivated with strong organizational
skills and able to multi-task and work well with teams. - Strong communication skills and proven
ability for effective verbal and written communication, and through email.
