Uganda
working in the field of disability arid development CSU is a member of the
Leonard Cheshire Disability Global Alliance, a membership of over 55 countries.
CSU works with and for Persons with Disabilities through four thematic
programme areas of Livelihood, Inclusive Education, Advocacy and campaign and
Health and rehabilitation. CSU has been selected by the Girls Education
Challenge (GEC) to receive DFID funding to design a project to effect
long-lasting and transformative change for girls with disabilities in Kampala
district. The project will support girls with disabilities to enroll and
demonstrate learning and retention in mainstream primary schools. CSU will in
the next five months develop the project further basing on the baseline to be
conducted. CSU therefore wishes to recruit a highly qualified and sett
motivated team to deliver the project upon final approval for implementation.
Assistants will be responsible for the effective and efficient leaming by girls
with disabilities and support in the identification of other skills that may
need to be developed.
- Ensure children with disabilities are
retained in school. - Work with teacher to develop and implement
girls with disabilities individual education plans - Identify the individual education needs of
girls with disabilities. - Linking up with parents of girls with
disabilities and ensuring their support in the education of their
children. - Provide sign language interpretation for
girls with hearing impairments during lessons. - Participation in staff and training
meetings provided by CSU or by the school. - Support girls with disabilities to access
classrooms and any other areas or locations within the school. - Work with the school mentor to provide
counseling support to girls with disabilities, - Support girls with disabilities to
participate in extra-curricular activities, exploration, and learning. - Planning and implementing activities that
develop self-esteem and social skills among girls with disabilities - Occasionally conduct learning assessment
of the gins using the learning assessment tool. - Regularly provide CSU education progress
report of girls with disabilities - Support development of the child to child
clubs in the school. - And any other duties as assigned by the
supervisor.
Experience:
- At least a grade III Teacher Certificate.
- Trainings in special needs education is a
must - Knowledge of sign language is a must.
- Computer literacy skills i.e. MS Word and
Power point - Good report writing skills.
- Training in child protection is an added
advantage.

and organizing, and customer care skills.
