Job Summary: The development Officer should possess a penchant to get things done and learn on her/his own (the kind of person who reads blogs and business books for fun). The position offers a unique opportunity to play a leading role in scaling an emerging social enterprise to transform education globally and reach hundreds of thousands of youth.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead all organization-wide foundation proposals and appeals to grow foundation revenue 30% annually, with direct support from a Uganda based communications coordinator (to be hired)
- Efficiently write exceptional grants that close and manage grant reporting to ensure renewal
- Leveraging outstanding writing and project management skills, manage a rigorous, organized, focused and prioritized foundation prospecting process, leveraging a U.S. based team member and interns
- Develop and manage org-wide brand, messaging and collateral, including website and video, to convey org message in a clear and compelling way
- Working with the U.S. team, oversee consistent strategic communication with key stakeholders through annual report, annual newsletter, monthly email, and individualized updates to investors that moves all stakeholders through stages of cultivation
- Create and manage major gifts individual strategy, including campaigns and a giving society
- Manage individual prospecting process .
- Manage and maximize value of relationships with board members and a small portfolio of investors
- The Development Officer should possess a bachelors degree with a heavy writing focus from a top university
- A minimum of 4-6 years work experience, including two years in a marketing/sales/fundraising/external role, with a developed knack for persuasion
- Proven track-record of high achievement in unstructured settings
- Natural ability and tenacity to always get things done, regardless of circumstances
- Passionate about international development/education
- Strong project management and organization abilities
- Confident and comfortable writing and manipulating content quickly for a variety of stakeholders
- Proven ability to work virtually with occasional travel, including trips to Africa
- Excel in an entrepreneurial, rapidly-growing and independent virtual environment with minimal supervision
- Eagerly jump on opportunities to exceed expectations and solve new challenges autonomously
