Reports To: Executive Director
- Prepare pleadings and appear in court on behalf of UWA in line with established legal procedure
- Propose legal advice as and when required on various matters arising out of the day-to-day operations of Uganda Wildlife Authority.
- Ensures that all the statutory obligations are met and he/she defends the organization in courts of law
- Ensures that agenda, minutes and notices of the UWA Board of Trustees are prepared in time in line with existing statute and procedures manual
- Lead the development of MOUs, agreements and other legal documents/instruments in line with UWA Statute and other applicable laws.
- Liaises with different Government Ministries or agencies e.g. Ministry of Justice (Company registry) and Ministry of lands to ensure the proper registration of UWA property through monitoring and registration process.
- Ensures the preparation and proper execution and registration of legal documentation between Uganda Wildlife Authority, stakeholders and its clients and other third parties ensuring UWA interests
- Ensures that gaps if any in Wildlife policies and laws, Regulations are identified and recommendations to the supervisor or relevant authorities are made for consideration.
- Conduct any other official duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor/ OR Management from time to time.
- The Deputy Director should hold a Masters Degree in Law from a recognized University, specializing in commercial or company law.
- Possess a Diploma in Legal Practice qualification, Administration and Management is an added advantage, should be registered with the Uganda Law Society with a valid practicing certificate.
- Five or more years working experience in legal practice, two of which should be in a prominent and busy company or organization.
- Good knowledge of the principles and practices of company law or commercial law and procedures guiding public sector.
- Good knowledge of legal practice, good observer, listener and a careful analytical person.
