Job Title: Legal Officer
Organisation: USAID Project – Supporting Access to Justice, Fostering Equity & Peace (SAFE)
Duty Station: Uganda
About SAFE:
Supporting Access to Justice, Fostering Equity & Peace (SAFE) is seeking to implement a USAID-funded project through the National Center for State Courts (NCSC).
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Training of Government officials and Civil Society Organizations on land administration and other land related legal issues
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer mentoring between participating districts in the Program
  • Provide grant recipient training and technical assistance
  • Participate and contribute to all required reporting
  • Other responsibilities as required.
 Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor Degree of Laws
  • Post-graduate diploma in legal practice
  • Minimum of two-three years of legal work experience, preferably with projects/NGOs in the area of human rights, legal aid, resolution of land conflict, and capacity building of communities and local government.
  • Proficiency in English writing skills demonstrated by experience in donor report writing
  • Strong public speaking and training experience.
  • Expertise working with computer software, word processing, information management programs
  • Clear commitment to the vision, mission, and values of NCSC and USAID
  • Ability to engage in frequent in-country travel.
  • Ability to work within a collaborative program structure involving staff from three separate organizations with multiple lines of reporting and evaluation.
  • Result-oriented with ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision
  • Fluency in a regional language of Uganda
  • Experience working with/knowledge of informal mechanisms for dispute resolution in a developing country.
  • Project management skills and understanding of donor requirements.
