About ASARECA:
Our client, The Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) is a sub-regional not-for-profit association. It was established in 1994 by 11 member countries represented by their national agricultural research for development institutes.  The major objective of ASARECA is to develop policies and programs aimed at deepening co-operation in agricultural research and policy among its member countries for the mutual benefit of all the stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
·         Reviewing internal controls in the operating systems and sections of the Secretariat;
·         Follow up on implementation of action plans for areas for improvement noted;
·         Reviewing the risk profiles developed by the different Heads of Units / departments;
·         Follow up to ensure that risks identified by management are controlled to acceptable levels;
·         Assist in monitoring compliance to the organisation’s anti fraud policy;
·         Assist in carrying out investigations for suspected cases of fraud, prepare a report and make necessary recommendations;
·         Visit sub grantees to check compliance to sub grant agreements, adequacy on internal controls and that the project objectives are being achieved;
·         Discuss deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to improve operations and prepare formal written reports addressed to the sub-grantees for response;
·         Participate in identifying auditable areas basing on the risk profiles submitted by the various departments or units and major audit findings; and
·         Participate in preparing an Annual budget for the unit and assist in preparing unit work plans.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate will have:
·         Three (3) years experience in audit or accounting in a busy non governmental organisation with at least one year’s experience in Donor funded projects ;
·         Practical experience in the use of accounting software preferably SUN systems ; and Computer literacy in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
·         We are looking for a candidate with a Degree in Commerce (accounting), Business Administration (accounting), Accounting, Finance from a recognized university or its equivalent and demonstrated progress towards being a fully qualified Auditor/Accountant CIA, CPA (U), ACCA, CIMA and Membership to a Professional Accounting body.
