Job Background:
The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Communication Programs (JHU-CCP) is seeking a Study Coordinator for a period of 4 months (Nov. 2012 – Feb 2013) to oversee assessments of selected government family planning services to examine their capacity to deliver long-term and permanent family planning methods (LAPM). The proposed study will serve as a follow-up to a comparable baseline study conducted by JHU-CCP in 2010. The Coordinator will coordinate the facility assessment study from pretesting instruments and training research assistants to supervising fieldwork, data entry, and analysis.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Specifically, she/he will:
·         In close consultation with the JHU-CCP Research Advisor, recruit and hire all staff required for successful implementation of the study;
·         Organize all logistics for training, pretesting, and data collection, including preparation of agreements, venues, meals, travel expenses, budgets, transportation, and necessary supplies;
·         Print and photocopy adequate numbers of study materials well before pretesting and fieldwork commence;
·         Co-facilitate training of research assistants and take responsibility for all workshop arrangements
·         Supervise all data collection, including availability of required supplies, telephone monitoring of supervisors and their teams, and directly ensuring quality of data collected by one to two teams.
·         Work with the JHU-CCP finance team to ensure adherence with JHU and USAID financial procedures and to ensure that funds for specific activities are available and accounted for in a timely manner;
·         Prepare and track a survey budget and ensure that costs do not exceed the budget;
·         Prepare data collection mapping routes;
·         Prepare a study implementation plan outlining how each aspect of the study will be conducted.
·         Prepare and submit a post-survey methods and implementation report
·         Identify and hire data entry clerks, and set up data entry equipment in the JHU-CCP office
·         Supervise data entry and cleaning
·         Organize and store questionnaires for easy accessibility
·         Ensure effective close out of the data collection, entry and cleaning phases.
·         Prepare a data analysis plan, conduct an initial analysis of the data and prepare frequency tables, including tests of significance, and comparisons with 2010 Facility Survey data.
·         Draft a report of findings and submit to JHU-CCP for review and finalize based on feedback.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
·         Masters degree, PhD or doctorate in health, population, applied statistics or other social science;
·         Experience coordinating a survey in Uganda;
·         Experience analyzing survey data in STATA and SPSS;
·         Experience writing research reports;
·         Excellent analytical and writing skills.
·         Familiarity with at least one Ugandan language other than English desirable.
·         Must be available to travel in Uganda during fieldwork over a 2-week period.
