Technician- Apiculture Job Opportunity at National Livestock Resources Research Institute
The National Livestock Resources Research Institute (NaLIRRI) with the main institute located at Tororo and with some activities at Serere and Namulonge, is one of the Public Agricultural Research Institutes(PARIs) mandated by the 2005 Act of Parliament to undertake, promote, coordinate and ensure dissemination and application of research results in livestock and apiculture. NaLIRRI invites applications from competent Ugandans to fill the Position above;
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Identify nectar and pollen sources for honeybees, collect seed and raise tree nurseries of bee forage plants.
· Maintain the NaLIRRI demonstration apiary and the bee forage garden. Collect and conserve indigenous bee genetic resources. Collect and prepare laboratory and field samples and specimens of disease vectors and honey bee pests for processing and analysis. Examine bees to detect the presence of disease. Monitor and observe experiments, record data and write reports and summaries of findings.
· Prepare laboratory materials and maintain equipment, reagents, chemicals, utilities and facilities in clean condition.
· Trap, collect, identify honeybee pests and carry out pesticide resistance and sensitivity assays.
· And any other duties as assigned by the by immediate supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
· Diploma in Bee keeping, Diploma in Agriculture with an Entomology option.
· Two (2) years relevant experience in beneficial insect management.
