- Advocacy
The post holder will be a high level representative of the organization, shaping the perceptions of MSU among stakeholders, the Ministry of Health, development partners and other actors in the following aspects; a. Represent MSU at regular fora and at high level meetings both national and regionally b. Work with partners to drive forward advocacy priorities of operational importance to the organization c. Manage MSU’s central relationships with development partners and the Ministry of Health - New Business Development
The post holder will lead on all fund raising and new business development done by MSU. The post holder will work with members of the Senior Management Team to develop concepts, proposals, cultivate donor relationships and negotiate with partners. The post holder will also; a. Work with members of the senior management team to identify opportunities and funding needs b. Author concept notes and proposals with input from multiple sources c. Create budgets with support from the MSU finance team d. Develop donor relationships, including securing donor meetings, organizing visits and following up on funding opportunities e. Respond to donor requests - Communications
The post holder will work with MSU’s communications team to create corporate communications materials that represent MSU as an innovative and effective organization by; a. Commissioning corporate materials as needed and manage the MSU website b. Managing and accompanying journalist visits and requests as needed, including those by the international press c. Authoring press releases as needed d. Putting out a quarterly newsletter e. Writing stories and other material for donor and MSU publications
- Be educated to a University degree level
- Be completely fluent in English ,numerate, and a clear, concise strong writer
- Have a firm track record of securing multi-million dollar funding for development programmes, especially from bilateral donors
- Be sensitive, diplomatic and engaging
- Be able to travel within Uganda regularly and internationally occasionally
- Have significant experience of high level representation and strong presentation skills
- Be experienced in planning of advocacy campaigns and events
- Be deadline driven and maintain their sense of humour under pressure
- Be able to articulate complicated concepts to a variety of audiences, including potentially contentious issues
- Be able to work independently and juggle multiple, pressing priorities
- Have experience in dealing with press requests
- Have existing relationships and connections within the Ugandan health sector (desirable)
- Have basic photography skills (desirable)
- Pro-choice and interested in reproductive health

- Decisive and excellent judgment.
All incumbents will work under the supervision of the Country Director or his/her designee and will be located at the Support Office in Kampala. Physical Ability: The ability to travel within the districts of Uganda Contractual Period: TWO (2) Years
