Research Associate: Cassava Breeding Job at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Uganda

The general objective of the job is to provide support to the team working on Cassava breeding Project in carrying out research. The successful candidate will be based at Namulonge Research station, working on field trials in Sendusu, and field travel assignments to Serere, in Soroti. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with NARO and a range of partners across the region and Advanced Research Institutes across the world.
Duties & Responsibilities:
·         To support research on mainly but not limited to cassava breeding activities
·         Supervise the design and laying out of field experiments
·         Supervise routine data collection and entry into spreadsheets
·         Analyze data recorded in multiple locations across seasons using appropriate statistical software packages, prepare reports and draft manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
·         Write quarterly reports
·         Supervise research assistants and technicians
·         Any other research activity as assigned by the supervisor.
Education requirements and experience:
The successful candidates should have;
·         At least a Masters degree in Crop Science with specialization in plant breeding or related field.
·         At least four years of practical experience at any agricultural research, training or extension institution.
General information:
Fluency in English is mandatory. French and Swahili languages are added advantage. This position is for initial period of 2 years contract renewable depending on performance and availability of funds.
