Share An Opportunity Uganda (SAO-U) is a Christian founded child focused NGO empowering households and communities to fulfill their obligations in child Care and development and is affiliated to Baptist Union of Uganda. Share An Opportunity -Uganda’s key thematic areas are child health, Basic Education for OVCs, Child Advocacy, Enterprise Development and food security, institutional development for community based Organizations’ while HIV/AIDs is mainstreamed in the program.
SAO- Uganda is looking for competent, proven persons to fill the following positions.
Reports: Project Coordinator Location: Buikwe and Tororo Districts
Duties & Responsibilities
·         Facilitate the process of ensuring that the sector activities are implemented in the project areas as per the annual plan and other recommended guidelines.
·         Liaise and consult regularly with the Project coordinator, relevant government departments, non-government organizations, churches, local leaders, community and beneficiary leaders, and other concerned parties, in relation to the implementation of all the community based activities in the assigned sector.
·         Coordinate mobilization of community development activities using the Rights Based Approach (RBA), to enable them identify, assess, and analyze viable activities geared towards self-reliance;
·         Conduct training needs assessment amongst SHGs and ensure role transfer at different levels during project implementation.
·         Prepare periodic work plans and budgets (with the support of the Project coordinator) for the sector assigned and other related activities in liaison with other section heads, to ensure appropriate utilization of project resources;
·         Coordinate and consult closely with the beneficiaries and local leaders to ensure optimum utilization of items, implements and/or ideas provided, and for planning, monitoring and evaluation of project activities;
·         Make regular visits within the project area to .all beneficiary sites where funding, materials, inputs, and equipment are utilized in this sector’s activities, verify existing beneficiary caseloads, check on project needs, problems, and progress, ascertain how project inputs are being utilized, assess if delivery of material support to project beneficiaries is achieved, and advise accordingly;
·         Develop monitoring tools to check and report on the quality of the project activities and supervise community facilitators.
·         Ensure active participation of the SHGs, and community members in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of project activities.
·         Receive and assess proposals and ideas from SHGs and recommend viable self-help initiatives to the Project coordinator for appropriate action;
·         Organize and carry out field research involving data collection, and data preparations for statistical analysis on all SHG operations, activities, and related issues, facilitate monitoring and assessment of project activity impact on beneficiaries and communities and make recommendation for appropriate action;
·         Prepare reports as necessary and/or required;
·         In liaison with the Project Coordinator, review and redesign this sector’s strategy to address the growing and changing needs, and on request prepare and submit proposals for funding possibilities;
·         Facilitate the process of building the capacity of the SHGs, Community facilitators and community members towards self-reliance.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
·         A degree in Development studies, Community Development, Agriculture, SWASA or Education is desired
·         Post graduate qualifications in Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation is a plus
·         At least 3 years working experience in rural community development
·         Good communication and rural facilitation skills desired
·         Ability to initiate tasks and implement them under minimum supervision
·         Knowledge of the local language will be an added advantage.
