Sustainability Projects Manager Job at Armajaro Uganda Limited in Uganda

Our client, Armajaro Uganda Limited is a global soft commodity trading house and supply chain manager founded in 1998 and is one of the world’s largest traders in soft commodities. Headquartered in London, they have origination and exporting operations in all the major cocoa, coffee and sugar growing countries across the globe employing over 2,000 people. In Uganda they specialise in the sourcing and delivery of coffee and are committed to being the partner of choice in the Agri-commodity supply chain. They are now hiring.

Representative, the successful candidate will be responsible for the projects spread in Robusta and Arabica coffee growing areas throughout Uganda. The purpose of the job is to help smallholder coffee farmers and specific value chains to implement Good Agricultural Practices, improve overall yields, and organize themselves in a manner to i be able to effectively obtain sustainably grown certification and access markets.
Specific Responsibilities:
•    Conduct baselines studies of smallholder farmer supply chains and insure that annual targets for extension are met.
•    Prepare all supply chains for the Map Track system and relevant certifications.
•    Establish and manage farmer training schools to support effective extension work allowing.
•    This includes managing the overall lesson plans and training calendar.
•    Maintain and report on all Monitoring and Evaluation activities
•    Report on crop health and overall region-by-region or area by area productivity as it relates to the overall coffee harvest annually.
•    Implement Internal Control Systems for. projects throughout Uganda.
•    Ensure that the correct caliber of employees is engaged in the project area and they are well qualified for the duties assigned.
•    Monitor progress and report accurately on Managers’ and Trainee Managers’ performance.  
•    To set own performance targets in consultation with Head of Report.
•    Oversee all Project budgets and cash flows.
•    Shall visit all project areas under jurisdiction at least once a month during harvest.
•    You shall advise the farmer trainers on the following:-Coffee pruning and conversion, best method of weed control, mulching, type and when to apply fertilizer, pest and disease control.  
•    You shall personally oversee spray calibration months, soil and leaf sampling for analysis, Shade trees and Sustainability aspects.
•    Should communicate with the managers daily by SMS and or phone to know the operations of previous day and advise accordingly.
•    Ensure that the managers submit weekly and monthly reports and accounts for further scrutiny and prepare and present profit and loss accounts promptly.
•    Achieve sustainable grown certification for all project areas and perform regular checks to the facilities.
Knowledge and Education
•    Degree in Agribusiness, Industrial Chemistry, Business Economics, or Accounting/ Finance or related field.
•    A post graduation qualification with a bias in crop management, preferably coffee.
•    At least 6 years in a senior management role of a coffee or similar crop processing organisation.
•    Practical exposure to Agribusiness Projects Management.
