The New Forests Company is a vertically integrated agro-industrial business planting trees on sustainable commercial plantations for processing and selling of value added timber products to local and regional markets.
The Pole Sourcing Officer will be responsible for procurement of raw poles and organising the transport logistics for delivery to our New Forests Pole Plant in Mityana. The Pole Sourcing Officer will be responsible for identifying eucalyptus plantations in various parts of the country that are suitable for pole production, negotiate purchase and arrange for harvesting and transport of the poles to the pole plant. The Pole Sourcing Officer will be expected to take a leading role in preparation of Pole Supply Tenders.
Skills and Competencies required:
· Knowledge of pole quality and grading
· Knowledge of pole sources and distribution in the country
· Third party negotiation skills – tenacity and strong assertiveness
· Preferably some forestry harvesting experience
· Ability to assess an area for harvestability and log transport
· Drivers license
· Working long hours and travelling
· Knowledge of logistics and procurement in the agricultural and/or manufacturing sector
· Strong focus on quality and quality management practices
· Ability to negotiate and mitigate situations with all stakeholders
· Ability to produce written English reports for the Board and shareholders
· Ability to prepare tender documents
· Proven ability to manage a function independently.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
Essential: Degree or Diploma in Forestry, Wood Technology or Applicable Science
Preferred: Qualified in Forestry I Wood Technology or applicable science
· A basic management qualification will be a distinct advantage over and above the essential qualifications
· At least 2 years relevant experience in a supporting capacity.
