We are retained by the Uganda National Charter of Commerce and Industry, UNCCI to identify competent Ugandans to fill the posts below based at the Secretariat Offices in Kampala, Uganda. UNCCI is the oldest and largest nation-wide umbrella organiza­tion of the private sector in Uganda. UNCCI was set in 1933; but established in 1978 under the Companies Act, Cap 110 as a company limited by guarantee with no share capital, to become a leading private sector body in Uganda with an influential network for business opportunities. Its mission is to provide services and advocacy to create a conducive and sustainable business envi­ronment in Uganda. In implementing its programs, the Chamber collaborates and networks with various local, regional and inter­national partners and affiliates.  Our Client is looking for highly motivated, creative and competent persons to lead its strategic programs (enshrined in its Strategic Plan, 2010-15). They must be able to innovate to make UNCCI vibrant and productive. The posts are tenable for a period of three (3) years and carry competitive benefits
Head of Policy Research, Lobby and Advocacy
Reporting to the Secretary General, the main function of the Head of Trade, Economic Policies and Advocacy is to carry out research and consultations on trade policies and economic matters in the economy so as to appraise the policy advocacy of the Chamber for the benefit of UNCCI membership.
Main duties and responsibilities are to:
·         Craft a comprehensive policy and advocacy strategy for UNCCI
·         Research on policy and trade matters so as to feed the policy advocacy function.
·         Engage in policy dialogue at national, regional and international levels, to enable UNCCI contribute positively to decisions and policy debates for the purpose of effective representation of the membership.
·         Through consultation to the Private sector and the business community at large, compile a range of policy issues for discussion with relevant government authority to take action
·         Benchmark policies in the region through the regional network of Chambers for harmonization of the regional trade.
·         Research threats and opportunities
·         Monitor income and costs associated with Trade products
·         Publish trade journals
·         Oversee the operations of the Resource Centre at UNCCI for provision of improved information needs of the members
·         Represent UNCCI at strategic committees, workshops, training and other events organized by partners
·         Attend meetings to link up to the global Chamber network so as to facilitate international trade for the benefit of UNCCI membership.
·         Conduct regular meetings to identify concerns and advocacy issues to provide feedback on policy interpretations to various sectors in differ­ent parts of the country.
·         Forge strategic alliances, locally, regionally, and internationally with major business advocacy groups to broaden platforms for representation and advocacy.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
·         University degree in economics, finance, or related fields.
·         Expert knowledge of local and international trade products.
·         Thorough knowledge of product economics and pricing.
·         A good understanding of trade operations.
·         Product management skills.
·         Negotiation and marketing skills.
·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
·         Team leadership and team management skills.
·         At least 3 years experience serving in the relevant field.
