Communications Officer Job at World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Uganda

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Is one of the world’s largest independent and experienced conservation organizations operating in over 100 countries in the world. WWF Uganda Country Office (UCO) is increasing its involvement in the energy sector through its implementation of the Energy and Climate Programme at the country office. The programme is implementing several projects that include components on increasing access to clean energy alternatives, sustainable use of natural resources, promotion of wood fuel alternatives, and promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The programme is funded from NORAD through WWF Norway, DA IDA through WWF Denmark, SIDA through WWF Sweden, and UNDP.
WWF-UCO is seeking to suitable candidates for the positions below. The candidates in addition to the specific job requirements must have demonstrated a high level of integrity and honesty. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. S/he must be a team player and ready to travel outside his/her own work station. S/he must adhere to WWF-UCO values of “Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging”.
Position: Communications Officer
Reporting: Energy Manager
Location: Kampala
Project Duration: 2 years
Job Purpose
·         Develop and implement the department communication strategy in close consultation with the UCO and ESARPO communication offices;
·         Develop communication tools to raise awareness of the project activities;
·         Supervise communication activities of the energy and climate programme and its partners.
Major Function and Responsibilities
·         Develop and implement the department communication strategy in line with the overall WWF UCO communication strategy;
·         In consultation with the Energy and climate team, plans and supervises the development and production of communication materials including printed and electronic media;
·         Supports the communication processes during training programmes organised by the Energy and Climate Programme;
·         Develops and maintains social media engagement of the Programme and its specific pages including Earth Hour, Energy Sustainability Forum, etc;
·         Supports UCO communication office to update WWF UCO web pages, and periodical reports.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
·         A Bachelors degree or equivalent in the field of Information, Communication, media and/or other related field;
·         A post graduate qualification in any of the above fields is an added advantage;
·         A minimum of 2 years work experience in Information, Communication and Educational programmes targeting environmental related issues would be an added advantage.
·         Experience in development and use various media tools and technologies;
·         Skills in project planning, proposal writing, management, implementation; and evaluation, and experience working with donors.
Working Relationships
·         Internal & External Relationships: Interacts and works closely with the WWF UCO team and the relevant government Institutions, Civil Society Organisations and any other stakeholders.
