Clinical Officer (1 position) – Uganda Research Unit on AIDS Uganda Virus Research Institute
Job purpose: To carry
out clinical assessments related to the clinical trial, provide medical care to
study participants and coordinate the clinic activities to ensure timely,
accurate high quality data is collected within standard ethical procedures. The
holder will report to the Project Leader.
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Assess and review
participants eligibility for the study and conduct regular clinical reviews for
all participants enrolled according to protocol guidelines
2. Provide clinical care to
participants whenever needed.
3. Responsible for daily coordination of field clinic activities including
daily assignment of roles to staff and measuring outputs, and coordination of
timely sample delivery to the laboratories.
4. Ensure adherence to ethical
standard through review of the consent process in the field clinic.
5. Ensure proper questionnaire
administration by checking for completeness and consistency.
6. Ensure safety and proper use
of field clinic supplies and equipment.
7. Ensure quality control
processes such as calibration of clinic equipment, staff training, and
appropriate proper administration of the questionnaire are adhered to.
8. Provide regular progress
reports of field clinic activities and suggest strategies to improve
participation.
9. Ensures compliance with protocol
procedures and SOPs.
10. Organise weekly team
meetings to improve performance.
11. In liaison with field
workers, sensitise communities on study activities and study outcomes.
12. Contribute to study design
and publications
Education, Skills and Experience needed
  • A
    diploma in clinical medicine and community health, and registration with the
    Uganda Allied Health Professionals.
  • Experience
    working in an HIV/AIDS care and research setting and team management
  • Certificate
    in Good Clinical Practice is an added advantage
Terms and conditions:
Successful applicants will serve a 2 year contract.
Other terms and conditions for
the post are within the MRC salary scales and will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience.
Location: The position will be
based in Masaka with frequent travel to the fishing sites.
Start date: As soon as possible
