Policy Network (AWEPON) is a pan-African faith based Regional organization with
an active membership in 20 countries across Africa. It has Secretariat based in
Kampala Uganda which also serves as Uganda Country office. More information

AWEPON seeks to recruit a dynamic Executive Director
Responsibilities:
The Executive Director works under
the overall guidance and supervision of the Finance and Administration
Committee (FAC) and in close consultation with the Steering and Management
Committee (SMC) of AWEPON. The Executive Director has the primary
responsibility for the overall running of the organization. This role includes
initiating economic policy analysis, research based advocacy and providing
Technical Advise, policy and other support services to the membership,
identify, develop, implement and monitor programs in relation to AWEPON’s
mandate and interests. The Executive Director will responsible for
organizational development, management, and development of program activities,
resource mobilization and preparation of organizational policy, in close
consultation with the Steering and Management Committee and the Finance and
Administration Committee. More specifically, duties will include:

Oversee, coordinate the 20 Country Chapters and
manage the smooth running of AWEPON’s Secretariat.
·        
Fundraise and explore potential donor agencies
and possible development and networking partnerships.
·        
Take leadership in initiating programs, the
implementation of the organization’s policies and manage the Secretariat staff.
·        
Manage the Strategic plan – spearhead the
implementation of agreed programmes, effectively involve members in the
implementation of programmes.
·        
Coordinate the Continental policy analysis and
capacity building activities
·        
Facilitate continental wide campaigns (policy
analysis and mobilization) and act as the lead person, providing technical
campaigning support and advice to member organizations, coalitions of African
women’s organizations.
·        
Coordinate all AWEPON related Global Policy and
Advocacy work and link AWEPON membership to relevant Global women and anti
poverty campaigns
·        
Develop programs that benefit AWEPON members and
implementation strategies, in particular focusing on policy analysis with a gender
lens and capacity building.
·        
Interface with African governments, the Bretton
Woods Institutions and create and maintain linkages and alliances between
AWEPON members and key economic policy actors and institutions both
continentally and globally that impact on the women in the African region.
·        
Undertake lobbying and Advocacy for the economic
empowerment of African women, maintaining a network of contacts and allies in
the region amongst UN, Donors, Think Tanks, and Governments. Undertake lobbying
of northern Governments, global financial Institutions and represent and be the
spokesperson for AWEPON as required.
·        
Relationship Management- Enhance the achievement
of AWEPON’s mandate, management and relationship building with key continental
institutions and actors.
·        
As Ex-official of the Steering Committee – Act
as Secretary to the Steering and Management Committee, facilitate agreement on
common policy and communications positions.
Undertake any other assignments and responsibilities as may be assigned from
time to time
Job Requirements
·        
Master’s Degree in a discipline related to
economic development, gender and empowerment of women, social analysis and the
humanities
·        
Ten years experience in senior management work
in development and economic policy analysis, research, gender mainstreaming,
advocacy and capacity building
·        
A minimum of five years experience interfacing
with government and financial/policy making institutions
·        
A proven track record of developing programs,
strategic plans and raising funds for development work
·        
Good communication skills. Knowledge of French
is an added advantage
·        
Networking and partnership development and
negotiation skills
·
