Chief Internal Auditor – The New Vision Printing and Publishing Company

Job Title: Chief Internal
Auditor
Reports to: Functionally
to The Board (through the Board Audit Committee) and administratively to the
CEO
Job Purpose: The CIA
oversees independent, objective, assurance and consulting internal audit
activities and strategic and operational risk management reviews designed to
improve business operations, promote good corporate governance, enhance
profitability, and ensure continuity.
Key Result Areas:
  • Direct and oversee the development of the annual
    audit plan in order to ensure adequate coverage of strategic and
    operational business risks.
  • Provide direction to the Internal Audit team to
    ensure adequate coverage against the plan, to ensure efficient and
    effective utilization of departmental resources.
  • Direct the overall performance of audit procedures,
    including identifying and defining issues, developing criteria, and
    reviewing and analysing evidence to generate audit reports that add value
    to business operations.
  • Direct audit staff in the planning, organizing,
    directing and monitoring of internal audit operations, including assisting
    in hiring, training and evaluating staff.
  • Direct the audit staff in conducting interviews, reviewing
    documents, developing and administering surveys, composing summary memos,
    and preparing working papers which provide credible evidence of work done.
  • Direct the audit staff in the
    identification, development, and documentation of audit issues and
    recommendations. Ensure appropriate follow up to ensure implementation of
    audit recommendations.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University
    (Business Degree in Commerce, Economics, or Finance preferred).
  • Certification as CIA, ACCA, CPA, or CISA.
  • 5 years full-time experience in auditing, account­ing,
    business analysis, or programme evaluation, including 3 years of
    supervisory or audit manage­ment experience.
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting and auditing is
    essential, as well as ability to use the Microsoft packages.
  • Knowledge of contemporary professional develop­ments,
    and ability to apply them to provide strategic direction and vision to the
    function.
  • Excellent conceptual, analytical and communica­tion
    abilities. Ability to quickly synthesize vast amounts of information into
    coherent and commu­nicable data is critical.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality
    and act as a business consultant to operational and executive management.
  • Ability to provide ongoing training, coaching and
    supervision to internal audit staff.
  • Ability to maintain company and professional ethical
    standards.
  • Ability to work independently with extensive latitude
    for initiative and independent judgment.
