The Office Manager/Accountant – Chemonics International Inc.

International Inc., a leading international consulting firm based in
Washington, D.C., seeks experienced professionals for the Famine Early Warning
Systems Network (FEWS NET III), the world’s premier provider of high quality
food security analysis and early warning. Created in response to the 1984
famines in East and West Africa, this $200 million, five-year activity
(2012-2016) aims to collaborate with international, regional, and national
partners to provide timely and rigorous early warning and analysis of
potential, emerging, and/or evolving food security issues in order to inform
appropriate humanitarian response. The project currently covers 31 countries,
with plans to expand over the coming five-year phase.
Position Description:
  • The Office Manager/Accountant will
    be based in Kampala, Uganda and is responsible for all financial matters
    relating to the project, including managing the project’s accounting
    transactions and books, monitoring project budget expenditures, and
    assuring proper financial reporting.
  • Financial Management: Supervise
    and manage all financial and accounting
  • Record-Keeping: Enter accounting
    transactions into Abacus Software on a daily basis, assist home office
    field accounting and project management staff in reconciling inter-company
    accounts, respond without delays to home office accounting questions
    or concerns.
  • Procurement and Inventory
    Management: Supervise project procurements and the inventory/maintenance
    of all equipment, materials and supplies
  • Manage all vendor accounts: Review
    all vendor invoices for accuracy, monitor vendor balances, issue and send
    checks signed by the COP to appropriate beneficiaries.
  • Supervisory responsibilities:
    Provide oversight and supervision of driver

Qualifications and/or Equivalent

  • BA in Accounting or related field;
    Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of five years experience
    in accounting, financial and procurement management.
  • Excellent speaking and writing
    skills in English required.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office
    software, word processing and spreadsheets required.
  • Previous supervisory experience
