Project Manager – KfW Carbon Fund

KfW promotes and
manages climate protection projects around the world and in all relevant
sectors. In addition to providing financing, we focus on the use of
project-based mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol and the conception of new market
mechanisms. KfW Bankengruppe is the promotional bank of the Federal Republic of
Germany and ranks among the ten largest banks in Germany. Among KfW’s tasks are
the provision of financing schemes for the protec­tion of the environment and
climate, export and project finance, development assistance for developing and
transition countries. With its Carbon Fund, KfW procures certificates for
European companies subject to the EU emission trading scheme and for
governments who wish to use the certificates to fulfil their obligations under
the Kyoto Protocol.
  • As Project Manager for CDM
    projects and programmes in Sub Saharan Africa (with a focus on Uganda,
    Ethiopia and other selected countries in the region), you will be based in
    KfW’s office in Kampala I Uganda.
  • Your primary task will be business
    development, i.e. the identification and selection of eligible CDM
    projects and Programmes of Activities with the goal to support and
    initiate the develop­ment of CDM Projects and PoAs and to acquire
    greenhouse gas emission certificates. This also involves – inter alia –
    providing advice and support to the respective Partners, to evaluate
    project/PoA ideas and to accompany and monitor the life cycle of CDM
    projects and PoAs. You will cooperate closely with CDM and technical
    experts in KfW’s headquarters in Germany. Through your existing and
    expanding network you will liaise with business partners in the CDM market
    and develop new business relationships for the KfW Carbon Fund. As KfW is
    actively involved in the international, European and national debates on
    the further development of project-based mechanisms and new market based
    concepts and projects, we are looking for a qualified candidate ready to
    take on multi-faceted tasks in this challenging, dynamic environment.
and Skills:
  • Talented project originator with
    strong ability to identify and develop business opportunities
  • International university degree in
    a related field (e.g. Master in Business Administration, Economics,
  • Proven experience in the
    development and/or management of CDM Projects and Programmes
  • Proven experience and network in
    the Sub-Saharan CDM market and/or in relevant sectors, e.g. renewable
    energy, energy efficiency
  • Strong networking skills and
    proven ability to build and manage successful business relation ships in
    the regional and international context
  • Good verbal and written
    communication skills
  • Fluency in English; good command
    of German I French would be a plus
  • Ambitious and committed to
    achieving corporate targets
  • Team-player with strong
    interpersonal-skills and willingness to work in an international
  • Self-motivated and self starter
  • Mobility for business trips within
    the region
  • Professional experiences of at
    least 4 years in related fields
  • Experience in the finance sector
    would be a plus.
