PROGRAMME DIRECTOR – ADA


Africa Development
Assistance (Part of Africa Development Alternatives), ADA, seeks to recruit a PROGRAMME
DIRECTOR
for its partner agency, the Namugongo Fund
for Special Children at Namugongo, Wakiso District on the outskirts of Kampala.
Namugongo Fund for Special Children provides orphans and vulnerable children
(OVCs) with access to education, healthcare, and other social services. Located
less than 30 minutes’ drive from Kampala, at Namugongo in Wakiso District, NFSC
is a rural community-based, Non-Governmental Organization reaching over 1,500
children each day through multi-site breakfast centers, psychosocial support,
school scholarships, after school programming, medical support, and child sponsorships.
Twenty-five percent of children cared for by NFSC are infected with HIV, while
all experience the effects of AIDS through poverty, homelessness, school
dropout, social isolation, discrimination, and/or loss.
The PROGRAMME DIRECTOR is overall responsible
for the management of NFSC, including a team of Programme Managers, Centre
Coordinators, Social Workers, Volunteers and support staff; and reports to the
NFSC Uganda Board, which is supported by the NFSC USA Board. A Community
Committee supports each of the seven (7) Centres of NFSC. Reporting directly to
the Uganda Board of Directors, the Programme Director carries out the following
functions:
• Strategic direction
and advocacy for the NFSC
• Overall programme management and oversight
• Resource mobilization
• Preparation of monthly and annual reports on NFSC
• Partnership development and representation
• Knowledge management and capacity building.
• Management of Board
of Directors’ meetings including presentation of reports on NFSC to the Board.

  • Experience in social work and
    management of OVC programmes
  • People management skills
  • Ability to provide strategic
    leadership in planning, programme development and implementation,
    management and reporting
  • Ability to advocate on behalf of
    children
  • Ability to develop and maintain
    partnerships
  • Fund-raising
Required Skills and
experience
  • University degree or equivalent in
    social sciences or related development field
  • Years of experience in social
    work, community development with management of people and programmes. Work
    with OVC will be an added advantage.
  • Retired professionals in fields
    relevant to this position are encouraged to apply
  • Written and spoken English, the national
    language of Uganda. Knowledge of Luganda, while not a requirement, will be
    an asset given the location of NFSC.
