Assistant Finance Officer (AFO) – The Hunger Project (THP)

The Hunger Project
(THP) is a global, nonprofit, strategic organization committed to achieving the
sustainable end of hunger and poverty. THP is working in 12 countries in
Africa, South Asia and Latin America – in partnership with the people at the
grass root level – to develop effective bottom up strategies to end hunger and
poverty. THP has been working in Uganda since 1999 and has established eleven
(11) epicenters in the districts of: Iganga, Mbale, Kiruhura, Mbarara, Mpigi,
Butambala, Kiboga and Wakiso.
THP Uganda is
recruiting qualified, competent and highly motivated Ugandans to fill the following
positions based in Kampala head office:
Assistant Finance
Officer (AFO)
Reporting to the
F&AO, the responsibilities of the AFO include but are not limited to the
following:
  • Timely processing and disbursing
    of organization funds and ensuring proper accountability for funds
    disbursed
  • Maintain recorded book of accounts
  • Fixes assets register maintenance
    and good filing system of all documents pertaining to financial
    transactions.
  • Follow up on receipts and
    payments: bank reconciliations for all accounts and manage epicenter cost
    liquidity levels.
  • Any other duties as assigned by
    the supervisor.
Required Knowledge
and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or
    accounting.
  • At least 3 years professional
    experience in accounting and finance
  • Must be well organized and
    accurate with figures
  • A good team player who is
    flexible, tolerant, committed and capable of working within a
    multicultural team
  • ACCA or an equivalent professional
    accounting qualification will be an added advantage
  • Accounting and bookkeeping skill
    with hands on experience in QuickBooks.Ability to work within tight
    deadlines
